THE CITY OF EMBER Reflection By:Yuri

This book ‘The City of Ember’ is about a girl named Lina and a boy named Doon. When their city is about to run out of light, Doon and Lina finds an instruction that might save them from the darkness. But the mayor is blocking their way to save Ember, and they don’t know what it says on the instructions since most of the letters faded.

The social issue of this book is mostly about human population, because the people who started living in Ember first was moved to Ember so people won’t disappear from earth. And what ever is causing the humans to disappear from earth was not caused, the people of Ember wouldn’t have to suffer much. And because of the thing that was or is decreasing the human population the children of Ember doesn’t get to see or learn the things that we see or learn.

I think the author’s message is not to let the global warming get worst because the issue is about human population decreasing and maybe its decreasing because of global warming.

After I finished the book I still had questions in my mind and they were, what really made them live underground apart from my guess, Why didn’t the builders of Ember want them (the people of Ember)to know about the world up above? And why didn’t they bring any animals with them?

Thank you for reading my blog post. I highly recommend this book if you like reading about the affect of human knowledge. If you already read it, there are 3 sequels to this book. And they are ‘The People of Sparks’,'The Prophet of Yonwood’,and ‘The Diamond of Darkhold’

THE VIEW FROM SATURDAY Reflection By:Yuri

This book The View from Saturday is about a sixth grade team who beats the seventh graders and the other sixth graders against their knowledge. The 4 members of this group are Noah, Nadia, Ethan, and Julian.

The main social issue in this book was to get asked a difficult question. There are 2 parts in this book where they talk about this topic. 1 of them is where Mrs.Olinski is getting asked questions. Because Mr.Singh asked a question that she didn’t have the answer too she didn’t enjoy the tea much at first. Another part on his topic is when Julian was asked a question that he knew the answer too but said something wrong so they lost.

A question I still have from the book is Why didn’t Mrs.Olinski choose Hamilton Knapp as one of the team members even though he is smart? I do have a answer to this question but it is a guess so I am not sure. I think these kind’s of books that keep you wondering are good because that hooks the same reader which makes the reader recommend this book to someone else. And people spread more and more things about this book which might make someone else become a reader.

This book taught me a lot about bravery because the bravery that the souls (Noah, Nadia, Ethan, and Julian’s team’s name)had to stand up and fight the 8th graders taught me that if I did not give up there may be a great world before us.

I love to recommend this book but not as a social issues book.Hope you enjoy it!

My Awesome Songkran Holiday By:Yuri

On this spring holiday I went to Hua Hin. We got to ride on a pony for my sisters birthday which my sister was really exited about. The pony that I rode on was named pancake which did really fit for her because the shade of her skin was like pancake. Also we met some other people there from ISB.

My family went to a sea food restraunt which I like. And my sister and brother didn’t eat a ting because they thought the food looked weird or smelled weird. My favorite dish there was the crab meat curry which I always order when I go there.

My sisters birthday went pretty fancy because we put too many decorations on. The really good part was that we got to have 2 birthday cakes because we ordered one and got one for free from the hotel. I hope my sister enjoyed it and my present too because I made a bunny doll for her.

I think it was the best Songkran ever.

BUD,NOT BUDDY Reflection By:Yuri

Bud,Not Buddy

This book is written by Christopher Paul Curtis who is also the author of my favorite 4th grade read aloud book The Watson’s Go To Burmingham.

This book Bud,Not Buddy is about a boy named Bud who goes in search of his father. He is an orphan and he was adopted by the Amoses who were mean and cruel and the parents Mr. and Mrs Amos would only listen to their son who always was mean to him and Bud was kicked out  from the house just because of     him  (Mr. Amos and Mrs. Amos’s child) lying to Mr. and Mrs Amos. He finds his father in the end but he ended up to be his grandfather.

I think this book is great because it explains to me alot about the street orphans which exist everywhere around the world. I got influenced by this book because right now I feel like I cold help the street orphans just like the book.

I hope to read more books written by Mr. Curtis because I just love those books.

SEESAW GIRL Reflection By: Yuri

Seesaw Girl

This book is written by Linda Sue Park who has written many of my favorite books back in 3rd grade.

This book Seesaw Girl is about a girl named   Jade who is born in a very wealthy house but unpatient unlike other girls. She is also very smart because she invented the seesaw from wanting to see the village which is beyond the barrier of the house and the mountains. Her cousin           married the eldest of the Han family and was sent to the Han house so she began to feel lonely since  Willow was gone and she wouldn’t meet her even if she visited her by going outside the Inner court which was a forbitten thing to do to ancient Korean woman.

I think this book is great because it explains a lot more on why ancient asian woman were forbitten to do many things like learning or playing jokes, tricks, tag, etc. I mostly used the strategy on being in the characters shoe which means to imagine being right next to or the character. This is the strategy you should use when you want to learn more about the time period of the book.

Global Issues Network By:Yuri

When I took a look around the MPB I saw a group called Panya Project. I was very interested in this group because the group was trying to help others by making houses and I never knew this kind of group existed and I think it was very thoughtful of them to make houses by using normal things like mud, rice, etc.

They started this group to create better houses (ex. water leaking roofs) for poor people and a home for free because some people don’t have homes.

I can help by giving the ingredients to make the houses or actually telling everyone that this group exists so more people will participate.

Chocolate

and candies.

Gummy bears

and gum.

Packed all tight

screaming for help.

It’s taken by an airplane

to be eaten

to be gone.

At least I can breathe

says the candy in relief.

Flying Leafs By:Yuri Watanabe

Winds

gently stroke the leafs.

As they get colder

it loses its life

and one by one,

they fall upon the earth.

Carols from birds

and blooming flowers were presents for newborns.

There where the leafs fell,

stood a small tree

as high as

me.

Hunters of the Sea By:Yuri

Sharks are shouting

It’s mine for sure!

Starving stomaches

hissed at others.

Human smell

skipped under seas

over icebergs

and through aquariums.

Elephant seals gurgled,

as they hit the boy

with their tusks.

Eels stung others for more

as others

screamed for life

but no one pays attention

to where the body is

floating.
