In this book a kid named Palmer lives in a town where every year the do this festival that boys that are 10 or older wring the pigeons for money. And he hangs out with this group of kids Beans, Mutto and Henry that are mean to his other friend Dorothy. The book starts off at Palmer’s ninth birthday and he hangs out with the guys. Months later this Pigeon steps up to Palmer’s window. Palmer keeps it as a pet which he names Nipper. He tells Dorothy and tells her about Nipper. For months everything feels good. Then Palmer’s 10th birthday arrives and that’s when things get real interesting. There is adventure, laughs and friendship. I think the social issue is animal rights and bullying because they shoot and wring the poor pigeon’s necks and because Beans, Mutto bully Palmer and Dorothy. At Palmer’s tenth birthday Beans does this speech about how he hates pigeons and I wonder why does he hate pigeons? And when Palmer is being chased by Beans and Mutto I would think that he is very brave because I wouldn’t do that because I would be too scared. I wonder if Jerry Spinelli will make the sequel to Wringer because it is very good. I think what the writer is trying to tell you that you should be careful to see if you are in a click like Palmer.

In this book a kid named Lincoln travels to Japan as an exchange student. His new family the Onos. The Onos live on a farm in a town far away from Tokyo. When he goes there He learns Kempo a kind of martial art. He does many crazy things while he’s there. Like while going to Tokyo Lincoln and Mitsuo have to find something but get chased away by guards. The social issue I think is people being not as advanced as other people because the Onos live on a farm. I wonder who many people live on a farm. I think what the author is trying to tell us that even though your friends are from a different country you can still be friends!

What I did on my Songkran holiday was shop… shop… And Shop for lots of things like books, cloths, etc. my family and I went to the new Central. We went swimming at a big pool near the lake of Nichada. We went to Siam Paragon and saw the Aquarium where we saw a few shows, lots of cool fish like the Vampire fish, moray eels, sharks, clown fish, and many other things you would be amazed or even scared by. We barbequed with Zach Baker and his family. We went to the movies and saw Race to Witch Mountain and watched Monsters vs. Aliens with the Bakers. I even got my hair cut.

In this book by Mary Francis Shura, a young girl named Annie lives with her dad and she has two friends: Will and Sophie. When she moves, her dad becomes ill and dies. All of a sudden her life was whooshed away as she joins the Michigan army in the civil war. She goes in countless battle to save her state. I made lots of visualizing like for the battle for Bull Run I could see the countless lives being torn from existence and the bullets flying through the air. This helped me because when I wrote my thinking down I wrote what I saw in the book. When I read the book I thought it was a good book. I recommend this book to all people who like the Civil War and who like history.

In this book by Lousie Erdrich, a young girl and her family live on an island in a lake in Minnesota. She and her family are getting ready for winter. Her father has come back and she has been hearing stories about mysterious islands. She has a good life until she goes to the rice festival. There a mysterious stranger comes and her life turns upside down. She must brave the harsh winter to the peaceful spring. I thought about the reading strategy “Who has power and why?” This helped me because when the “Visitor” came it could have been avoided. I recommend this book to all people that like a good story.

When me and my class went to the Global Issue Network Conference, I learned about a really good cause. It was the Elephant Nature Park, located in Northern Thailand. It is helping all the elephants because elephants are dying out. There are many causes of this like hunting, forest fires and so on. So now they are keeping elephants in a reserve where they can live in peace. But there are still elephants out there that need help. You can help by going to their website and put money in to give to people so they can help the elephants. If you want to learn more click here.

Oh Man!
It’s a boy’s worst
Nightmare
Valentine’s Day
But there is lots of treats
Worst of all
You have to talk about feelings
Oh Man!
Cupid what are you doing here
Why are you pulling your arrow back?
ZONG!
That arrow poked my butt
I don’t feel very good

There the sword lay
Stuck in the stone like a man stuck in quicksand
But my arms
Tight on the hilt
YANK!
The Magnificent blade
Was stuck no more
With a new king

A flash
Zap!
I am flying
Going back in time
Zoom!
Seeing Indians
Cowboys
Knights and princesses
Kings and queens
Cavemen with their hairy beards
Then I land in a forest
Then a giant
T-rex runs up
Oh No!
Chomp!

Fuzzy
Small little
Puff balls
On my lap
Licking
Exploring
Oh No!
One of the pets
Made a mess
