Erika’s Book Reflection “Anastasia at Your Serice” By Louis Lowry

This book is about a girl who named Anastasia , wanted to work, but for some reason, she had to be a maid. Then one day, she met with girl who is thirteen years old. Her name was Daphne. Then they a bag thing to Mrs.Bellingham, because they didn’t like her. She made Anastasia be a maid, and she gave a doll to Daphne on her birthday. But Mrs.Bellingham didn’t know their feelings. But Mrs.Bellingham decided to tell Daphne’s parents, so she told Daphne’s parents what Anastasia and she did. Then they got really mad, that made Daphne cry, because her parents never got mad at her even though she did a bad thing. So she promised that she won’t never, ever do bad things again. But at the end, they became good together.

I think the social issues in this book is humiliating and fairness. I will just talk about fairness. I think fairness is a social isssue in this book, because Mrs.Bellingham made Anastasia be a maid, even though she said she wants to be.

I think the author’s message is the even though you have a person that you don’t like, don’t do anything bad, because it is not good to do a things that is BAD.

Reflection on The City Of Ember

Hey! It’s me Tim.My book club and I have just finished reading our second social issues book. The book is called The City of Ember. In the city of Ember, there is no sun. Just light bulbs. The people of Ember think that Ember is the only light in the world and beyond is all darkness. The book is about a girl named Lina Mayfleet who is the book’s main character. Her mother and father have died so Lina lives with her grandma and her little sister Poppy. In Ember, when every kid turns twelve, they graduate and are assigned a job. Lina really wants to be a messenger but unfortunately gets the job of a pipeworks laborer. Doon Harrow on the other hand gets the job of messenger and asks Lina to trade. Doon wants to be underground because underground is where the generator is and Doon has ideas to fix the lights in Ember which are starting to flicker and go out. When Lina finds a paper in Poppy’s mouth, it is torn and Lina decodes it. Lina shows Doon the message after Lina’s grandma dies and they move into their neighbor Mrs. Murdo’s house. They soon find out that it shows how to go out of Ember into another city. They follow the instructions and are in the surface world. They soon find a hole and see their city and discover that Ember was underground the whole time. They send a message explaining everything and how to get to the surface world and they drop the message down the hole.

I think the end of the book was my favorite part because it stood out a lot and made want to read the sequel to this book.

Mrs Murdo, walking more briskly than usual to keep her spirits up, was crossing Harken Square when something fell to the pavement just inn front of her with a terrific thump. How extraordinary, she thought, bending to pick it up. It was a sort of bundle. She  began to untie it.

I think the social issue(s) in this book are:

loss- when Lina loses her grandmother.

laziness- the citizens of Ember are just too lazy to change the lights of Ember and they think nothing will happen.

I think that the moral of this story is do something right away instead of waiting until something bad happens or when it’s to late.

Tim’s Holiday

For my Songkran holidays, I traveled to Malaysia to visit my family in Kuala Lumpur and Kuching. It was a lot of fun because I got to see my relatives. In Kuching, I mainly went back to celebrate my grandpa’s 76th birthday. To celebrate, we went to a chinese restraunt to eat and have dinner. Cousins, aunts, and uncles along with other relatives came too.  My mother stayed in Kuala Lumpur so  I stayed with my brother and my dad. When it was time to leave Kuching, my dad headed back to Bangkok for work and my brother and I went to KL to see my relatives there. We stayed at home a lot watching TV along with some shopping and we stayed over at my aunt’s house.

Finally, it was time to head home back to bangkok after a long relaxing holiday.

Boy it is glad to be back!

Reflection on The View from Saturday

My book club and I have just finished a book called The View From Saturday by E.L. Konigsburg. I am reftlecting on this is because it is a well written book because of the detail and how clearly I can see it in my  head. This book is about a teacher named Mrs. Olinski and she chose four kids for her academic bowl team (An academic bowl is kind of like a speeling bee mixed with a test). Those four kids are: Noah, Julian, Nadia, and Ethan. Together they make up “The Souls”. In the end their team won the academic bowl. I think the social issue in this book :

is loss because of Nadia’s father and mother. They were both divorced and that made Nadia’s life tougher because she has to travel on holiday to see her dad. This isn’t fair for Nadia because she didn’t deserve this.

Lonliness and bullying: When Julian was new to the school, everyone teased him because of his funny accent and what he wore and how he acted.

I think the authour’s message is don’t judge peoplr by who they are or their looks because each of The Souls were judged by their behavior and looks when they were new.

I think I would rate this book 5-7/10

Reflection on The Watsons Go To Birmingham-1963

Reflection on The Watsons Go To Birmingham-1963

Hey! Its Tim and my book club and I have finished a book called The Watsons Go To Birmingham-1963.

This book is about a family traveling to Birmingham (not to move there) to visit their Grandma Sands.

The characters are Kenny, Papa, Mama, Joey, Grandma Sands, Buphead, and Byron.

This was probably one of our favorite books that we have read so far. We made post-its to show our thinking and to show where we used strategies.

Reflection on SOS Titanic

Reflection on SOS Titanic

My name is Tim and my book club and I have finished reading a book called SOS Titanic.

In this book we go back into the 1900s where the RMS Titanic is about to leave on her first maiden voyage. This story is mainly about of course, the Titanic, the 2nd largest ship in the world of its time.

The characters in this book are Barry, the main character, Pegeen, Mr. Scollins, and Watley who are all supporting characters.

We felt that this was a really exciting book but in the beginning, it was kind of boring. While we were reading, we made lots of post-its and wrote our thinking in our reading journals.

Reflection on Global Issues Network by Tim

Hey it’s me Tim and I’m here to talk about WFP or World Food Progamme. The World Food Programme is a business that delivers food to areas of the world that have a population of poor people. For example they would take an airplane full of packages with food and supplies in it and drop it from air. This business really stuck out  at  me because I thought of all the people in the world that don’t have food. We are really lucky to live the lives we have. Just imagine yourself starving and you haven’t eaten for 3 days and you’ve lived on grass and dirt and your own droppings. We can help by not wasting food and donating. Or maybe when we grow up, we can join  WFP. To find out more,  go to http://www.wfp.org/

Bombs Away! By Tim

Bombs Away! By Tim

I am a soldier

And I have to stop bombs

From exploding all over the state of Texas

The timer is set on 60 seconds

I have no time to lose

I try disassembling the bombs

but they are heavily armored

I try to take them somewhere else

but there are too many

I try to roll them away

But they are too heavy

Beep…. Beep…..beep

Goes the timer

I have 10 seconds left!

9….8….7….

There is nothing left to do

But run

Fast!

I speed across the battle field

And I sprint across the plains

Without stopping the take a break and rest

3…2…1…

Then silence

But I keep on running

Then all of a sudden

Bang!

Boom!

Crash!

Explode!

I soon see fire in the distance behind me

Coming after me

I run even faster

I run as fast as my legs can carry me

But the fire runs faster

And then I trip and fall on the grass

The fire comes charging at me

And then….

Tim!

My mom calls from downstairs

Stop popping those balloons

I’m trying to watch TV here!

And yet
