The War With Grandpa By Pauline

The book that I’m reading is called The War with Grandpa by Robert Kimmel Smith.  I think the social Issue in this book is that how adult treat the kids.

This book is about a boy name Peter and when his grandmother died, his grandpa had move to his house because he is very lonely living alone, but instead of giving the guestroom to be grandpa’s room, his parent made him to move to the guestroom and move grandpa to his room because grandpa’s leg is not completely hill yet from his accident, he can’t walk much and also because the guestroom is on the 4th floor too.

Then Peter got mad because he doesn’t want to loose his room and so then he started a war with his grandpa.

So then, back to the social Issue problem, the first thing is How Adult Treat Kid and what make I said that? It is because I think that it’s not fair for Peter because his parent did not talk to him about moving him to the guestroom yet and suddenly, need to move to the guestroom instead of his grandpa.

For the ending is that his grandpa had an idea and then he move to the basement witch was Peter’s father office.  Grandpa use to be a building builder and so then he build his own room um I mean redecorate the room and then they live happily ever after…The end

The holiday at Japan by Pauline

This weekend, I went to Japan (8 Days) and it was quite interesting because when I was at the airport (about to leave Japan) I saw Angie at the airport! It was weird and quite surprising because at first, I thought that she went to Tokyo…silly me, but then I saw her at Fukuoka! Ok now, back to the trip. I went to Harmony Land at Fukuoka and I love that place, but I think that that if they made the place bigger, which would be perfect. And also, I wanted to say that I real can’t sleep well at Japan because

1. It was not a bed, but a thingy that we put on the floor and sleep. It looks like a carpet too. Weird…

2. The weather is way too cold for me…

3. My father/brother snore so loud that I couldn’t sleep at all.

4. The next door people kept on singing Karaoke in the middle of the night.

Still, it was a good trip, you know, hanging out with your grandparent and spending time with your family.

I wish all of you have a good holiday… see you when school open!

School Days (book) Reflection by Pauline

This book is called “School Days” and I really like it. This book is a Historical Fiction book and I had been reading this book with my book club.

It’s about 3 girl who had went to school for the first time in their life, only to bad for them because only one years their big sister caught a fever and she could no longer see.

In my book club, we had been talking about our thinking and what reading strategy did they use when they are reading the book.

My favorite character is Laura the middle sister because she is kind and she is a good girl.

My favorite scene is the ending because Laura, my favorite character work hard to be a teacher and save some money to send her sister to the blind people collage and that is also a reason that my favorite character is Laura.

Book reflection By: Pauline (The Lucky Stone)

This book is called The Lucky Stone written by Lucille Clifton and it is a historical fiction book.

I like this book because it had a good ending.

This book is about a girl name Tee and her great-grandmother named Miss Picken. Her great-grandmother told Tee a lot of story about the lucky stone that make Tee wanted to have it because it’s a lucky stone that make us lucky.

The reason why Tee wanted the lucky stone is because she is already fourteen and she hadn’t ever got one Valentine and she was worried about having boyfriend and all.

The lucky stone had help a girl name Amanda stay alive in a cave because it was slavery time and then Amanda ran always from her boss and hide in a cave. After a while, a slave man walk by and a stone came flying to his neck. Then another, but this time there was a letter “A” scratched on the stone and that make him know where Amanda is. About the entire slaves know where Amanda is and they gave her some food when they walk past by and that make her stay alive in the cave.

The lucky stone had also save Tee’s great great grandmother from burning because when she was singing, on the stage, the stone fall of her great great grandmother pocket and that made her jump out the stage and on that very moment, the stage catch a fire and the stage collapse into burning pieces.

The lucky stone also help Miss Picken meet with Tee’s Great-grandfather or I should say first love

.

After a long story from Miss Picken, and when Tee is 14, Miss picken is turning to be 80 years old. She caught pneumonia. She would lay on her bed. After a few days, Tee’s parent wanted to take her to the hospital, but she didn’t want to go. But finally, Tee’s parent took her to the hospital. .And every Day, Tee went to the hospital to visit her Great-grandmother, but every time she goes there, the nurse say that no visitor allow.

She tries and try, every day and every Day until one day, when the nurse wasn’t there. She sneaks into her Great grand mother’s room in the hospital. She is there, smiling at her. She hug her tight and when the nurse came in, she made Tee go away, but when she was about to leave, Mss Picken shouted that to look in her closet, and she does. She fined out that there was a stone, lying there, with a color of the night. It was the lucky stone. She hold it in her hand. Then finally, in the mail box, the was a valentine…..card

The Cats in Krasinski Square–Reflection by Pauline and Leo

Pauline and I are reading a book called the Cats of Krasinski Square by Karen Hesse.

We are responding to the historical fiction reading strategy we learned where good readers build the world of the story in their minds as they go along. The book is about this girl who wanted to help 7 cats that used to have rich owners, but are now put out and living in the streets because of the war going on.

We know that this is taking place during World War 2 because we looked at the picture and it has a soldier marching and the front cover, some roof tops were blown off.  We wouldn’t see that often now!

We think this story takes place in Poland because there is actually a place called Krasinski in Poland and plus we know that Polish always have a ski in the end of the language.

Our prediction is that since the book is taking place during world war 2, the cats owner might have escaped or died so the cats were roaming free.

The girl wants to help them by smuggling food from the passengers of the train station.

That’s how we know this story is a historical fiction.
