Social Issue By:Mary

My book name is while no one was watching by: Jane Lesie Conly. The main idea of the story is that the 3 kids are trying to figure out where there aunt is and all though that time 2 other kids are trying to find a stolen rabbit.

The social issue in this book is theft and abandonment. I have learned that this is happening in the world as we speak and that we can help these people.

Another important event was when the found there aunt and arrested her for abandoning the 3 kids.

I have no wonderings.

The author was trying to tell us that we can help them, and also I think she wanted use to understand this issue because not a lot of people will know it.

Hachet By:Gary Paulsen Soical Issue Book Reflection

The main idea about the story was about a boy how gets in a plane crash and has to live alone. He fights for his own survival and there is no one to take care of him!

The social issue in this book I think is homelessness and kids living in dangerous place and alone. I have learned that you can live without power and a family it just a lot harder!

One of the important events I think is when a tornado comes. He has no place to do to be safe, and nowhere to run because the tornado was coming toward him. I think this is an important part because he survived and I think that I so wonderful it is amazing!

I really don’t have any wonderings Gary Paulsen wrote it beautifully!!

I think Gary Paulsen wrote this book because he wants to give you a life of fighting for your life! I loved the book too!

Reading Reflection on “So Far From Home”

The book I am going to tell you about is called “So Far From

Home” . This book is about a girl named Mary and she is from

Ireland. Mary has a aunt named Nora. Aunt Nora was saving up

money so that Mary can go to America. Aunt Nora finally saved up

money so Mary could go to America. Now I don’t what to tell you

about the rest of the book because you need to read the book.

This book was different then most books, because it is in

diary form but don’t worry it is not as hard as you think. When it’s

in diary form you need to know that it is always in the main

characters point of view, and the main character always has a

voice. So that makes it tricky to find how the vocie in that

part.

While I was reading this book my thinking was very out side

the box, because like I said in diary form you can get confused.

When I was doing my thinking chart I always had to stop and

think about what I am going to write it is tricky because you have to think what

strategy I am going to use.

Globe Issuses Confrerence By: Mary

On the day of the global issues conference, I went to the booth called plant a tree. This organisation plants tree in Thailand to replenish the trees that we cut down. Also they help the trees that grow so that they can grow faster and we can have more trees.

This organization is good because if we cut down many trees and we don’t replenish them we won’t have any trees lift. That could be a problem because trees produce O2 and we need O2 to survive. We also need trees for so many things like paper and pencil and books and wood! That is a lot of thing s to so that’s why I like this organization!  To learn more, click here

Love-By Mary

Love

Love is like a

Cloud

You can live on it

Breathe on it

And

Get broken on it

But

Love will be here forever

And you

Me

And

Everyone knows what love

Is

Home (a poem) By Mary

Crack

Shattered glass was everywhere

I

Woke up

To see what was going on

Oh glass why you break

Oh my dear friend

I didn’t mean to

But someone threw a rock

The rock shattered you

Oh you my dear

Will you ever get better?

My dear friend

I am dying

But if someone

New comes

Tell them

This is

White socks Only-Mary and Erin historical fiction reading strategy

Mary and I (Erin) read a book called “White Socks Only” by Evelyn Coleman. Our teacher gave us a strategy, where good readers build the world of the story in their heads by noticing all the details that make the characters daily life experience different that our lives.

On page 1 we noticed a detail that the grandma was speaking southern-like, so we guessed that they live in the south. We don’t hear that kind of language in Bangkok. On page 2 we noticed in the picture, the girl was in a white dress, white socks, and black patent-leather shoes. This makes us know that this was in the past. On page 7 she took off her patent-leather shoes, and stepped on the white only fountain. Today we don’t have white only fountains. On page 15 her family and friends surrounded her after she came home from the white only water fountain now a days the only people that will surrounded you are your mom, dad, and brother or sister.

We did this post because we are starting our historical fiction unit. So we learned how to use this strategy for when reading our own books in our historical fiction unit.
