Social issue on The boy who lost his face by Katy

I am reading a book called The Boy Who Lost His Face By Louis Sachar. This book is about a boy named David. His so called friends be mean to and old lady named Ms. Bayfield. They hurt her by stealing her snake cane, then knocing her over on her rocking chair then pouring lemonade on her face! David didn’t do anything he just stood there then he thinks that she put a curse on him by saying these weird words. All these bad things happen to him while he likes this girl named Tori Williams and his zipper in undone, he fell back in his chair then his pants fall down when he’s trying to ask out Tori. Then he goes back to Ms. Bayfield and asks her to remove the curse and she told him to bring back her snake cane from Roger (one of the boys that was mean to her.) and he had to fight for it so he and his friends go and fight allof the guys who were the ones to be mean to her. They got the cane and went to Ms. Bayfield. They find out that Ms. Bayfield is Toris great grandma.

I don’t think its fair that David got treated badly from his old friends, Scott, Roger, and Randy. They treated him badly by calling him names and saying bad things that were rude to him. They also always made front of him. Also his best friend Scott that David has known since second grade was trying to act cool in front of Roger and Randy so Scott had to be mean to David in order to be cool.

I think that the social issue is bullying because everyone was being really mean to avid because of the things that happened to him also his “friends” were laughing at him and basically beating him up at end. I have learned that its not nice to bully people and laugh at them because that could be you in a couple of years and then you would feel bad that you bullied them and now they are bullying youI wonder how Ms. Bayfields husband died because he was famous and i was thinking  did someone kill him or did he die in a car accident? Also why did Roger kick Ricky (Davids brother )in the head when Ricky’s little?

The Pinballs By katy

The book i’m reading is called The Pinball’s By Betsy Byars. This book is about a boy named Harvey who gets sent to a foster home because his dad ran over his legs with his car because his dad was half drunk. But Harvey’s mom doesn’t know because she is away. Another boy named Thomas J. goes to a foster home also because his two moms are twins and there names are Thomas and Jefferson so Thomas J. was named after them anyway, the twins are 83 and they broke there hips so they are in the hospital so they send Thomas J. to foster home and they are about to die. Then another girl named Carlie got sent to foster because she didnt like her stepdad so her parents sent her to foster also her nanie stole her necklace when she was little so know Carlie doesnt trust anybody know also she has no manners!

I thought it wasn’t fair that Carlie got sent to foster home just because she didn’t like her stepdad! I mean thats just plain mean! I would never do that if i was a mom! I can’t believe her mom allowed it too.

I really liked this book because it was interesting and fun because at the beginning they all didn’t trust each other but in the end they actually got along with each other. Also Thomas and Jefferson died but they were about to go in the world record book but they didn’t make it! And Carlie kept on asking Harvey why his legs were broken and he didn’t tell her but when they go to the library Harvey tells Carlie how he broke his legs then a couple of days later Harvey’s dad came and took Harvey out for dinner.

China by Katy

For Songkran i went to China! I went to three places. Firs I went to Beijing the capital for three days we also got a tourist named Jason he was really nice to us! first we went to Forbidden city! Forbidden city was built for only the emperor and his family. But when his children reached a certain age they had to get kicked out because they were a threat to the emperor and the emperor might be over thrown to his kids and the kids might become emperor. Then we went to the Great Wall of China and my dad, my brother, the tour guy, Jason, my mom and me walked one fourth of the wall because there was so many stairs and hills! Then we went to the Ming Tombs which had thirteen out of seventeen emperors were buried. Also we visited the tomb of emperor Qing Ling.

Then we flew to Xi’an which means western security in chinese. We visited the Terracotta warriors and they fouind emporer Qing and made thousands of terracotta warriors to be buried with emperor Qing to  protect him in the after life. In 1974 the warriors were discovered by 3 local farmers who were digging a well and they are still being dug up today! Then we went to the Wild Goose Pagoda which got its name because wild geese were flying around it.

Then we went to Chengdu and went to a Dow Monastery where Monks lived and we saw large statues of Buddha’s! then we went to have tea and we played Mahjong and while we were playing a lot of Chinese people gathered around us because they have never seen american people before so they were all looking at us! The next morning we got to go visit the giant pandas and we also got to hold a baby panda that was about 8 months old named Ya Ning and she was so cuddly and cute but we had to where a coat and a pair of shoe coverings also gloves! Then the next day we flied back to Thailand. And we had two days to have fun before school started again

Reflection on Stone Fox

The book I am reading is called Stone Fox by John Reynolds Gardiner. This book is about a little boy named little Willy and his dog Searchlight. When little Willy finds out that grandpa isn’t getting out of bed and hasn’t been paying taxes, little Willy is determined to help grandpa get money for taxes because if they don’t pay tax there field is going to be for sale. Little Willy saw an advertisement for a sled race contest and the winner will be awarded $500 and that’s how much little Willy needs to pay the taxes. Little Willy enters the contest and meets Stone Fox an expert on racing and has never lost a race. When little Willy and Stone Fox race Little Willy is about to cross the finish line when searchlights heart burst and she died because Willy was pushing searchlight to hard an she was going to fast.

I thought this book was really good because there is a problem that they don’t solve until the end of the book also they show pictures which help me when I read incase I don’t get something that happened in the book. I almost cryed at the end because Searchlight’s heart burst and little Willy never got to say goodbye to her.

One of the strategies I used was “how would I feel if I was in the charecters shoes?” I would feel sad when searchlight died. I would cry for days because I loved my dog just like Little Willy. I wouldn’t push my dog so much to win because I don’t want my pet I love so much top die from a race.

Global Issues Network: Helping Paws by Katy

Helping Paws is an organization to help soi dogs here in Bangkok, Thailand. The high schoolers here help soi dogs that are sick, need food and water, need a home, need shots and much much more! Soi dogs are dogs that live on the street who need a home, food and water, and lots of love. The high school students help the dogs.

I think I can support them by helping out when I get to high school or maybe giving my extra food and water and maybe build a shelter for the dogs so they can live longer.

Now Let Me Fly–Reflection on a Reading Strategy

Now Let Me Fly

Katy, Daniela and I are writing a blog post about the book “Now Let Me Fly” by Dolores Johnson. The reason why we are writing this is because we are trying to build the world of the story in our mind. One part in the story, we noticed that Americans kidnapped children, babies, and adults from Africa to America and some of the children and adults were departed from their family. Once they reached America they were bought from strangers and were forced to be slaves. At this time period we don’t have much slavery so this tells us that this happened years ago.

In another part of the story, the main character had a child. The child grew older and she became a slave but the child learned how to read by listening to her master’s children at their lesson since she was a slave it was against the law of a slave to know how to read. Many children learn how to read today in a school setting. That is also how we know it happened years ago.
