My Songkran Holiday By:Karin

This Songkran, I went to the Japan with my family for 1 week. The best beautiful thing was cherry blossom (SAKURA). The streets were covered with a cherry blossom. For me, it’s scemes like snow. One by one, it falls and also the day past. I played entire week with my cousins. We watched the cherry blossom together. I spent a lot of time with my cousins, I think they enjoyed too. I wish that I can see thet cerry blossomes again. But now, there is less cherry blossoms because of the globol worming. So in Tokyo, there is a project that we plant the cherry blossoms. And they’ll take a lot of time to grow so it’s hard for us to plant the cherry blossomsbecause of the weather.

Karin’s Social Issue Book Reflection : The Kid in The Red Jacket By Barbara Park

The book called “The kid in the red jacket” is awesome!! This book is about this boy name Howard have to move away plus his parents didn’t listen to his opinion so they did whatever they want. But the worst thing was his new neighborhood. This girl named Holly come over to his house for almost everyday. The issue in this book is bullying, because Howard throw Holly’s favorite doll back to back. And another thing is when father lost his job. Now, many people lost their job. So I think Howard’s dad lost his job too.

Karin’s Reading Reflection on The Lucky Stone

BY: KARIN KOIZUMI

My favorite book is calling “THE LUCKY STONE” by Lucille Clifton and this book is really good. This book is about this girl name Tee and her great-grandma is telling a story about lucky stone. And this lucky stone is really magical. Her great great- grandma also knows what lucky stone is. And this lucky stone is shiny as a night, it brought good fortune for their owner. I think author trying to tell the readers that don’t give up your dream it’ll come true in the future. And I’m also wondering why are they so many faces in the cover of the book.

When I was reading this book, I used a lot of strategies to understand more deeply. And it traveling in modern day. For example, slivery time, before the slivery time, after the slivery time, or so and so.

I used lot of sticky note to write refection, predictions, or question and comments. I think it’s really important to use strategy that we learned o far. Maybe I could use some strategy that no one knows.

I think I need to proof more reading skills, so that I could reach the high level. And Maybe I could read the book for 1 hour.

Global Issues Network Conference By: Karin

The Elephant Nature Park made the biggest impression and it’s my favorite one. The groups of people are helping the elephant that have been hurt. When the elephant didn’t follow the direction, some people hit them with sharp whip on their back of the ear and some of them are bleeding. So I think they should not use those things because they are hurting the elephant.
And some of the elephant stepped on the parcel bomb that people put it in long time ago and died. I don’t know this is true but I watched it on TV.

Now Let Me Fly–Reflection on a Reading Strategy

Now Let Me Fly

Katy, Daniela and I are writing a blog post about the book “Now Let Me Fly” by Dolores Johnson. The reason why we are writing this is because we are trying to build the world of the story in our mind. One part in the story, we noticed that Americans kidnapped children, babies, and adults from Africa to America and some of the children and adults were departed from their family. Once they reached America they were bought from strangers and were forced to be slaves. At this time period we don’t have much slavery so this tells us that this happened years ago.

In another part of the story, the main character had a child. The child grew older and she became a slave but the child learned how to read by listening to her master’s children at their lesson since she was a slave it was against the law of a slave to know how to read. Many children learn how to read today in a school setting. That is also how we know it happened years ago.

I notice something…………. By Karin

I notice the calendar on the wall.

Its trucks the date or month.

I’m starting to think how many people are using these calendars.

I’m realizing that how fast is the time.

It’s already December, and the school is almost over. It made me say that because almost everyone is stressed. Because the time went so quickly.

I think almost every single person had their calendar.

It reminds me when I was little. I got calendar from my grandma Kikui. She gave me that because, when I went to my grandmothers house, I always watching them. My grandmother said that she thought I like that calendar so that’s why she gave me. But actually I was interested about those numbers on the top of the square….
