On my Songkran break, I stayed in Bangkok because the red shirts had closed the airport first and I didn’t go to Udorn Thani because if I went, they could have closed the airport and I wouldn’t be able to come back to Bangkok. I really wanted to go and visit my cousin but I couldn’t! So instead my friends and I used a hose a buckets of water to soak motorcycles and gave cars carwashes because some cars had powder all over them. It was extremely fun because people in pickup trucks had buckets with freezing cold water and water guns. Sometimes motorcycle drivers would get us back for fun with water guns whenever we got them. My friends and I even got the guards of my building SOAKING wet!! We even bought ice so when we had people on bikes, motorcycles, or just people walking, they would get freezing cold! We did that for 3 days because that’s how long Songkran is. The day after Songkran was over; I missed doing it because it was so fun. I accidently motioned throwing water but I didn’t have water so it was funny. I ended my Songkran by getting everyone wet again then I went home. That night was also fun because I had a sleepover at one of my friend’s house! The next day, I played with my other friends… SNAKE! She has a pet snake and his name is Billy Bob. He’s a baby corn snake. He is very fun to hold. Unfortunately I got sick and I’m still sick! Over the last weekend, my temperature was 100.6 F! But I’m still but I’m getting better! :]

The Boy Who Lost His Face is a book about a boy named David and he tries to become popular by stealing an old woman’s cane. The cool kids say that she is a witch and that she put curses on people who disturb her. So the 2 cool kids lie about their names and David’s friend, Scott. Scott was David’s best friend since second grade but when Scott started hanging out with the cool kids, (Roger and Randy) he started ignoring David and calling him by his last name. Ballinger. Well once him and his so called ‘friends’ went in Mrs.Bayfeild’s house (the old lady), they acted like such polite kids. Then they pull her rocking chair backwards, so she falls on the ground. Roger breaks the window, and Randy pours lemonade on her face, throws the beaker on the ground. They all run away but David. David just froze.
Mrs.Bayfeild remembered that the boys think that she was a witch so she just makes up a spell. She says “Your Doppelganger will regurgitate on your soul!” I think that the social issue is that kids are doing bad things just to be cool or popular or get the boys or girls. I mean a lot of people do it in the world. Mostly in Middle School and in 9th or 10th grade. I think they should not do that because you can’t be friends with someone if your pretending you’re someone that your not.

The Pinballs
by Betsy Byars
The Pinballs is about these 3 kids, Carlie, Thomas J, and Harvey. These 3 kids go to a foster home because Carlie’s stepdad is very mean and hits Carlie in head all the time, Harvey had to go to the foster home because his dad ran over his legs with his new great AM, and Thomas J had to go because his mom dropped him off at these two twins house. Their names were Thomas, and Jefferson. That’s why Thomas J was named that. He had to go because the twins broke their hips so they had to go to the hospital and no one would take care of him. Well Carlie is very rude. For example, the dog in the book walked in front of the TV to go out and she threw the TV guide at him because he blocked the TV for about 3 seconds!! Whenever she got a compliment she took it as a insult. Thomas J was annoying to Carlie in the beginning because he couldn’t stop yelling because the Benson twins (Thomas, and Jefferson) couldn’t hear him if he talked normally. Towards the end Harvey’s right foot’s big toe, got infected and he had to stay in the hospital. Unfortunately he wouldn’t talk anymore so he had to fed through a tube in his arm!! Harvey always wanted a puppy but his dad wouldn’t let him. One time he asked his dad if he could buy his Christmas present with his own money and his dad let him. So Harvey went to the pet shop and bought himself a guinea pig which was all white and named him snowball. When he got home, his dad saw snowball and took him and killed him. I thought that was really unfair. So Carlie and Thomas J went to go buy Harvey a dog that was white so Harvey could name it Snowball. But all of them had spots. So when Harvey got his present he started crying because he was so happy. He finally got cured Carlie referred to Thomas J that they were like pinballs.

My book that I’m going to talk about is called Caddie Woodlawn. One of my thinking’s is on page 275. One of the main characters name is Caddie. On page 275, her dog came back because he was lost. When he came back the dog, Nero was skinny from being lost and no food. My thinking was I feel really sad about this part because I wish I could my dog, duke that I had to give away before Christmas, would come back. I also wish I could rock him back and forth in my arms. I also thought that the most interesting part of the book was when she had to give Nero away and got him back. In the part when she gave Nero to Uncle Edmund, she said “come back someday”, I said the exact same thing to duke when I gave him away!! This book was boring because nothing was really happening in the story. It was kind of reading a story that is saying, “I woke up, ate breakfast, and went to school.” But once I read the end when Nero came back, the story seemed so intense!!

The organization that had the most impact on me was called Helping Paws. What high school students in ISB were doing was, helping soi dogs in Bangkok. It had the most impact on me because I’m a animal lover and I especially love dogs. So they were cleaning them, giving them baths, and cleaning their fur. I really appreciate that because people like me would be devastated if these animals went instinct!!
I also think it’s important to bring the same awareness to the issue of human trafficking because we need to help the girls, and women all around the world because they are being sold to men for money! Human trafficking can happen to girls around 8 years old!
If you want you can learn more about Helping Paws, all you have to do is click on this.

Love
A source
A power
Attempting
To
Kiss
Candy
Valentines
Their heart melts
Mine is broken
My heart belongs to no one
Sorrow
Exciting
If I do anything
Or risk to do anything
I WILL regret it
Bad Idea
Love was never meant for me
Tears drop 1 by 1
On my legs
It slides down my thigh
Onto my toes it dries
Out
I never have a doubt about him
My crush
I hope will be
Mine
But he likes someone else
I dry out
I feel like a zombie
Love why did you come into my life?
You aren’t helping
Why?

The Rain
By: Jackie
The rain pouring in my hair as it fell
It ran through every tiny little strand in my hair
Drip
drip
drip
Down off my hair
SPLAT
One drop of rain turned into a million which spread through my head
As I
Stand in the rain
I stood
Staring….
At the
Rain
Falling
1
By

Down
Rain ran down my
Clothes
Soaking
The rain
Kissed my cheeks
As it fell when I stand
I walked away
Amazed

By: Ken Mochizuki
Angie and I (Jackie) were reading the book called Baseball Saved Us by Ken Mochizuki. Our teacher introduced us to the strategy where good readers build the world of the story in their heads as they go along. We saw the cover of the book. It made us predict that the place was China, because they looked Chinese. In the background it made us think they were in a prison even though they were kids. The reason why we thought this was because there was barbed wire surrounding them. It also made us think that these boys were playing baseball so they could win money to get out of prison.
But we found out that they were Japanese and they were in a desert. The Americans and Japanese were at WAR! In one picture, he was wearing a hat when he was about to hit the ball. Nowadays people wear helmets when they are about to bat. Another example was in a picture, and little boys were helping the adults make a baseball field. Now kids don’t do this. We have to pay builders to make baseball fields, uniforms, bats, gloves, hats, bleachers, and ext.
These reasons were how we used that strategy. First we compared the past and the present. We looked at the pictures to help us prove that we compared it.
