Hatchet by Daniela

Hatchet is a story about a boy named Brian who survied a plane crash. He  ends up all alone in a island in need of food, water, and shelter. All he has for protection is a hatchet. Brian has to be brave to survive by himself. I liked how the author narrated the plane crash. It created a movie in my mind, it was like i was there when it happened. Also, I liked how the author described how Brian faced hard problems, for example when he tells the times Brian was starving. I think the ending could have been better. It  was expected that he will  get rescued at the end of the book.  I think the social issue in the book is survival and loneliness. The story makes me think it is  hard to live alone with no one to look after you, especially if you are a child. I recommend this book to everyone because I enjoyed reading it.

While No One Was Watching By Daniela

While No One Was Watching is a story of 3 kids who have to be taken care of by their aunt while their dad goes away for the summer. But when their aunt disappered one night the 3 kids have to take care of each other. They are alone; they need money and food. This was a  story filled with suspense. One of the things I liked is that each chapter was from a different character’s point of view but they told the same story. I also liked how the author describes how worried and scared the kids were. I think the social issue in this book is loneliness and survival. People should read this book because it shows that this can happen in the world. Sometimes it does not matter how old you are you can still feel lonely. Also when you are lonely and have to survive you may end up doing things that you would never do and are dangerous. For example stealing.I enjoyed reading this book.

Songkran Holiday By:Daniela

For the Songkran holiday I went to Spain. The weather was cold, way different than Thailand. I went to visit my aunt and her husband and my 1year old cousin. We went to many places but one of my favorites places was the zoo.  We saw alot of animals. We saw owls, peakocks, koalas, panthers, but my favorite was seeing the grizzly bears and the wolves. The bear were amazingly huge and just by looking at them you could tell why bears are so dangerous but to me they are really beautiful creatures. The wolves were white and they had strong muscles and they look a little bigger than a normal dog. While we were coming out of the zoo we stopped by to see the wolves again and they were howling! It almost heard like they were singing. A wolf howled and then a different wolf howled back it was a beautiful sound.  It was a great vacation  in Spain because I discovered new places.

The Big Wave (A Reflection) By Daniela

The Big Wave

By: Pearl S. Buck

Kino the main character lived at the side of a mountain while his friend named Jiya lived at the side of the beach. One day the sea was angry and began to destroy everything. Will Jiya and kino face their fears?

I liked this book because I mostly understood the characters’ feelings and the author described the events so well it created a movie in my mind. I think this is a good book because you might have a connection with the characters.

I recommend this book to all readers so they could have a good time reading and most important to understand what these characters feelings.

A Jar Of Dreams

By: Yoshiko Uchida

Rinko, the main character, is a Japanese girl who lives in America with her mom dad and two brothers. But Rinko is facing hard times because many Americans hated them. One day they heard Rinko’s aunt was coming to visit will her visit change anything in Rinko’s life?

I liked this book because I could imagine what was happening in the book and I could picture myself in the book like I was with the character. Also I understood their feelings during the book. Most importantly, I could understand what Rinko was going through.

I recommend this book to all readers so they could understand how was life for Rinko.

Global Issues Network Conference Reflection

I think that all animals should be treated with care, this is why I like the Elephant Nature Park organization. This organization helps elephants by rescuing them from people that hurt them to make them work. The elephants are taken from their home and brought to the city. Their feet hurt because of walking in the pavement and they don’t get sleep. Sometimes by walking in the city trucks hit them so these elephants are afraid of cars. I disagree that hurting animals is a good thing because I believe that every living thing should be treated equally and be treated with respect. I think to stop having injured elephants or killed elephants people should not hurt them and send them to the wild were they belong. If we humans keep on hurting and killing these animals we won’t have any elephants in our planet anymore. We could help these people we could send money to this organization.

Love (a poem) By Daniela

love is a powerful thing

love can mean so many things

love is like a present

it can wrapped in different ways

with different ribbons and different cards

you can love so many things

you can love your family and friends

or an object or a pet

love is a powerful thing.

Clouds (a poem) By Daniela

some clouds are as soft as a blanket

some clouds are as light as a feather

Rain clouds are as dark as as the night

white clouds are as white as snow

but no matter how many clouds there are

it will always be a cloud

Now Let Me Fly–Reflection on a Reading Strategy

Now Let Me Fly

Katy, Daniela and I are writing a blog post about the book “Now Let Me Fly” by Dolores Johnson. The reason why we are writing this is because we are trying to build the world of the story in our mind. One part in the story, we noticed that Americans kidnapped children, babies, and adults from Africa to America and some of the children and adults were departed from their family. Once they reached America they were bought from strangers and were forced to be slaves. At this time period we don’t have much slavery so this tells us that this happened years ago.

In another part of the story, the main character had a child. The child grew older and she became a slave but the child learned how to read by listening to her master’s children at their lesson since she was a slave it was against the law of a slave to know how to read. Many children learn how to read today in a school setting. That is also how we know it happened years ago.

It’s Time For Recess By:Daniela

Sitting on my desk

my head on my books

but my eyes are concentrated on 1 thing

the clock

staring at it

“hurry up” I tell it for it’s almost time for recess

I pick up my pencil, look at my work

but still thought of recess

to finally stretch our legs

to run around and yell

and that is the only class with no work

I look at the clock again

only five more minutes

“hurry hurry” I tell it

two more minutes

1 more….

BRRRING!

the sound of the bell

the sound of closing books

for it’s time for recess
