My Songkran Holiday by Jackie

On my Songkran break, I stayed in Bangkok because the red shirts had closed the airport first and I didn’t go to Udorn Thani because if I went, they could have closed the airport and I wouldn’t be able to come back to Bangkok. I really wanted to go and visit my cousin but I couldn’t! So instead my friends and I used a hose a buckets of water to soak motorcycles and gave cars carwashes because some cars had powder all over them. It was extremely fun because people in pickup trucks had buckets with freezing cold water and water guns. Sometimes motorcycle drivers would get us back for fun with water guns whenever we got them. My friends and I even got the guards of my building SOAKING wet!! We even bought ice so when we had people on bikes, motorcycles, or just people walking, they would get freezing cold! We did that for 3 days because that’s how long Songkran is. The day after Songkran was over; I missed doing it because it was so fun. I accidently motioned throwing water but I didn’t have water so it was funny. I ended my Songkran by getting everyone wet again then I went home. That night was also fun because I had a sleepover at one of my friend’s house! The next day, I played with my other friends… SNAKE! She has a pet snake and his name is Billy Bob. He’s a baby corn snake. He is very fun to hold. Unfortunately I got sick and I’m still sick! Over the last weekend, my temperature was 100.6 F! But I’m still but I’m getting better! :]

My Songkran Holiday By:Karin

This Songkran, I went to the Japan with my family for 1 week. The best beautiful thing was cherry blossom (SAKURA). The streets were covered with a cherry blossom. For me, it’s scemes like snow. One by one, it falls and also the day past. I played entire week with my cousins. We watched the cherry blossom together. I spent a lot of time with my cousins, I think they enjoyed too. I wish that I can see thet cerry blossomes again. But now, there is less cherry blossoms because of the globol worming. So in Tokyo, there is a project that we plant the cherry blossoms. And they’ll take a lot of time to grow so it’s hard for us to plant the cherry blossomsbecause of the weather.

Harrys Social Issue book hatchet by Gary Paulsen

I am reading a book called Hatchet. I think it shows how things can change in a blink of a eye. Hatchet is about a boy who is forced to fight for survival after his plane crash lands in the Canadian wilderness. The pilot of the plane has a heart attack. If I was in Brian’s shoes I would also have a heart attack from fright. I think he is very brave to keep trying to live. After the tornado I thought how can Brian come back now?

I think the social Issue in Hatchet is death because a Brian is near death and his pilot is dead already dead. In Hatchet I wondered if Brian would die and never be rescued or will he be saved and live to tell the story.

The Lucky Stone; By Angie

By: Lucille Clifton

The main characters in the story of ‘The Lucky Stone’ were Tee, great-grandmother and the people who Tee’s great-grandmother told the story, which is Mandy Vashti.

Tee loved to sit out on the porch with her great-grandmother, listening to the fascinating stories about the lucky stone.

This book is about a stone, which it brought good fortune to each of its owners for over one hundred years. First it helped Mandy, runaway slave win her freedom. Then it saved Vashti from death by the lightning at a prayer meeting. And it even saved Tee’s great-grandmother from the ferocious dancing dog and helped her meet her husband.

Lastly the lucky stone was passed to Tee’s hand to gave it to her son/daughter(s), and to hand to hand to hand to hand, to hand to hand to hand.

Pin Balls BY:Betsy Byars

This book is about 3 kids, who a sent to a foster home. Carlie was sent because she could not get a long with her stepfather. She is a girl who doesn’t show her feelings often. She is also little lazy she loves to watch TV. Like me, I can l understand why it is relaxing and you do nothing just sit there and breath. She learns how to behave and in the end she seems happier. I think that because she is politer and more open she also cares for other people.

Harvey was separated from his dad because his dad ran over Harvey’s legs!! That shocked me because who would do that. But his dad said I thought it was in reverse. Plus in the hospital Harvey’s dad cried about his car not his son. His mother left to find her self. He is very sad and dull sometimes. I feel sorry for hi because on his birthday he was staring at the ceilng in a HOSPITAL. Because his legged got infected but Carlie found an article in the newspaper they were giving out puppies for FREE. He always wanted a dog. Carlie hopes it would cheer him up.

Thomas J does not remember his mother. He used to live with old twins who did everything together. He helped out around the house. But he never got a hug or kiss and he doesn’t know his birthday. But Carlie gives him one and he picks how old he wants to be. He will turn 9 so he is 8 now.

I think the social issue is kids who get left by their parent, child abuse and careless driving. I think this because Carlies step dad hit her and gave her a concussion. I think it’s a problem to leave your kid when he was a baby. Thomas j was left out al alone. I also think that careless driving is a problem because Harvey’s dad did not check the reverse and forward so he crashed into Harvey that is just so sad.

I thought this book was sad but plotted very well and was an interesting topic. I did not like how they did not share enough about the dog. But all in all great book.

Tim’s Holiday

For my Songkran holidays, I traveled to Malaysia to visit my family in Kuala Lumpur and Kuching. It was a lot of fun because I got to see my relatives. In Kuching, I mainly went back to celebrate my grandpa’s 76th birthday. To celebrate, we went to a chinese restraunt to eat and have dinner. Cousins, aunts, and uncles along with other relatives came too.  My mother stayed in Kuala Lumpur so  I stayed with my brother and my dad. When it was time to leave Kuching, my dad headed back to Bangkok for work and my brother and I went to KL to see my relatives there. We stayed at home a lot watching TV along with some shopping and we stayed over at my aunt’s house.

Finally, it was time to head home back to bangkok after a long relaxing holiday.

Boy it is glad to be back!

My Songkran Holiday by Kentaro

In my holiday Songkran I went to HuaHin.  Me and my family went to HuaHin to play golf. The first golf course was called BLACK MOUNTAIN COUNTRY CLUB AND HOTEL. It was where the golf championship was played and it was really hard. It was inside the mountain and the sight from there was also good. While we were playing golf, the sound of thunder was near. My mom wanted to stop but me and my dad played normally so my mom just followed us. At the end we compared our scores and I got the best score out of us three. So I ‘m allowed to have anything. In the hotel we had a good luck because we got our room up graded. At morning I realized that somebody from fifth grade was in same hotel. We stayed in that hotel for only night and morning.

On Saturday my mom came back from Japan. My mom went to Japan because my sister was going to Japanese high school in Japan Kanagawa. While my mom was staying in Japan, me and my dad was alone in our apatment. I was kind of sad when my sister went away. But until my mom came back we played golf, bowling and other staff that is fun.

It is kind of boring when it is Songkran because nothing is happening. Like soccer team, small japanese school and stuff like that.  But I had fun.

Earth Week

Happy Earth Week everyone!

One of the tasks the students had to do was conduct a little research on youtube.  They had to find a video or psa (public service announcement) that taught something about global warming, recycling, composting, etc.

I introduced the students to carbon emissions by showing a short youtube clip about that very issue. We watched it several times, and each time, the students noticed something new.  We analyzed it together and discussed the meaning and message behind this psa.Take a look for yourselves.

How are you ‘going green’? Miss B.

Book Reflection on The Pinballs by:Betsy Byars By:Juhyun

In the book The Pinballs, there were three kids, Carlie, Harvey, Thomas J. Thomas J didn’t have a parent, Harvey had a father but his father ran over him by the car by pressing drive instead of stop. Carlie had two step fathers who hit her, and both were so mean to her, so at last they all end up in a foster home. But unfortunatly, Harvey became contageous. But when the Carlie, and Thomas J baught him a puppy, he got better. I think the social issue in this book is that children being ingnored by their parents. I think that because all of their parents ingnore them some way. The part when the bad legged boy getsthe puppy, I thought that nothing would happen, but since it healed him, that event amazed me. I still wonder what Thomas J and Carlie would want. Because, since Harvey got a puppy and got healed, I wonder what is something that Carlie and Thomas J would want. In this book, I think the author’s message is that don’t be sad about something sad and do something else, and solve it.
