Olivia’s Narrative Writing Reflection

When I read my story again, I noticed that I always start my stories with dialogue. I would like to learn new and better ways to start my stories. I would like to talk about new ways to start a story in class because I think this will help improve my writing. I think I have improved my writing by including more details and dialogue. I think using more dialogue helps the reader picture the story in their mind. I also think adding details in a story has changed my story to be much more descriptive, which I am very proud of. When I read my story I think my strengths are dialogue, description, capitals, and punctuation. I think my main weakness is spelling. I think I did well in using speech and punctuation because I used it correctly. I think my weakness is spelling because I mispelled a lot of words. I think when Mr. Baade said, “Anna come down”, I think I could have used more detail to express his face. I think I could have ended my story with something funny to make the reader laugh. When we let the turtle go in the pond, I think I could have shown my expression and my emotions on my face and inside of me. Instead of saying I was sad, I could have said something more creative like, “I felt my heart sink as I watched swim away”. I think I did a good job overall, but there are areas for improvement.

Something I Noticed by Matt

I notice a cursive poster above our classroom. It has a neat print and blue letters. I started to think about how many letters there are in the english alphabet. That reminded me that there are many more alphabets in the world. For example the Spanish alphabet has over 26 letters in it. Another example is the Thai alphabet that has 44 consonants and 15 vowels! The reason for this is because every county has a difference. This is important because if everything was the same then the earth would have no individuality. In addition to that it made me think about how I am different from everybody else. For example, some people may like to play baseball while others may not care for it. I truthfully love to play baseball. I wish I could practice all day and all night. Another example is, some people might like to do homework after school. I like to do my homework (if it is in small increments). I’d much rather play with my friends outside than stay in and do my homework. Many people think that homework is absolute torture, but I think that homework will help you grow up and be able to get a successful job. What I think this says about people is that it is a very good thing to be different from somebody else.

Narrative Reflection by Matt

In the story “Moving Away” I think I needed to work on revising and/or editing. For example, some parts are very plain and give as few words as possible so I would need to stretch those parts out. Another example is when I am with my writing partner. Even though they are editing and revising my story I think I should also be able to improve it myself.

I think that in this piece of writing I used all the of the strategies that my writing teacher and homeroom teacher have taught. For example, they gave a lesson on dialogue and when to use it. Then I took the new knowledge and applied it throughout the story.

I’m really proud of myself because I’ve been working hard on paragraphing and not just on the hand-out-sheets. At the beginning of the year, in my first story, the story was a giant blob of words staring out, but now in my third narrative, I have organized the story into many neat paragraphs.

Something I Noticed By:Juhyun

I noticed a lot of books at the back of our class. There are so many that I can’t even count how many there are. With these books we learn a lot of things. But now I’m realizing that since book are made of a lot of paper and papers are made of trees, a lot of books may be causing a big part of global warming which leads earth to it’s end. But if we recycle other uses of paper, there would be less global warming and the earth wouldn’t end.

Reinforcing Math Skills Through Games

Hello Visitors and Parents,

Today we started learning about measuring angles in geometry.  After our lesson and practice, the students were able to log onto our school’s web portal  at http://guest.portaportal.com/isbg5.  They clicked on

Math–Geometry & Measurement  and then clicked on Measuring Angles.

Check it out!
